Kota Kai Bar & Kitchen asked SkinSounds to specify and design a versatile 'Multi Room Music System and 5.1 Surround Sound Cinema Room'.
There were 4 rooms which we needed to specify for. A Bar/ Restaurant, Kids Playroom, Skittles Room and a Cinema Room. We decided to install the Sonos Wireless Music System in all rooms with a 37" HD TV & Blu Ray Player in the Kids Room and a 60" 3D Plasma HD TV with HD Freeview, 3D Blu Ray Player and Monitor Audio Surround Speakers in the Cinema Room.
Kids Playroom - 37" HD TV With HD Freeview and Streaming Internet Services, Blu Ray Player and Sonos Music System.
Bar/ Restaurant - Sonos Music System with a total of 8 Speakers.
Skittles Room - Sonos Music System with two speakers.
Cinema Room - 60 Inch 3D Plasma HD TV with HD Freeview Receiver and Streaming Internet Services, 3D Blu Ray Player, Monitor Audio 5.1 Speaker Surround Speakers and Sonos Music System.
With all the rooms having Sonos Music Systems, access to all of their digital music stored on a NAS Hard Drive was possible, as well as all DAB Radio and online streaming services such as Spotify, Napster, iTunes etc.
The Sonos Media players were tucked away in the 'plant room' and were wired to speakers in the Kids Playroom, Skittles Room, Bar and Cinema Room, all controlled by the stylish and wireless Sonos CR200 colour 'touch screen' remote, enabling different music selections in each zone or the same music selection in all zones.

New owners of 'The Balcony' in St. Ives contacted us to evaluate the current Sound System in the Bar and get it up and running while also adding a new DJ Booth.
The previous incarnation of the Bar had no capability for DJs so we installed all relevant audio wiring and instructed the building contractors on the best design for the DJ Booth.
The DJ Booth was built on two pillars made from large breeze blocks, a method well known for its ability to counteract feedback when using Vinyl Turntables.
A problem DJ Equipment suffers is damage to the connectors with constant re-plugging of equipment. We therefore decided to install a 'Patch Panel' containing all the connections needed to plug into the DJ Equipment. This method ensures a longer life for the equipment whilst also allowing considerably easier setup changes, especially with Computer based DJ setups like Serato or Traktor.
Other wiring features include Microphone Tie Lines and Foldback Speaker feeds to the stage, DMX Lighting cables and four Cat5 feeds allowing wired internet connection for DJs as well as video distribution options for promoter branding.
The current speaker setup was in working order but was in need of Bass reinforcement so we provided a 700W RMS Bass Bin which improved the sound dramatically. The DJ equipment installed is Industry Standard, Pioneer CDJs & Mixer and Technics 1210 Vinyl Turntables.
All wiring is bespoke using the best Neutrik audio connecters available and are all labelled with the The Balconys' own artwork.
The result is a fully functioning DJ Booth which is capable of handling any situation thrown at it with ease, due to the accessible and easy to use Patch Panel.
The Kazbar
The Kazbar is Penzance’s latest offering to the more up-market bar clientele.
Offering a Moroccan style menu and boasting an impressive list of Cocktails, along with the usual good Ales and Wines, it is set to deliver a comfortable and relaxed venue for the more discerning client.
The specification given to SkinSounds was to create a subtle and smooth Sound System for the day-time food and drink clients, which could also cater to the louder evening Bar crowd.
We decided to go with a 5 - Zoned system with the fifth zone dedicated to Bass only. This 5 zone system allows the Bar Manager to tailor the Sound System for different areas, loud in one area, quiet in another, or more or less Bass.
The Bar area is fitted out with Larger Omnitronic speakers and also a 300W sub. With simple controls a variety of sound requirements can be created dependent on mood. Having the Bass on a separate control allows for more of a Club feel to be generated very quickly, irrelevant of overall volume.
The system is run using a combination of Apple’s iTunes and Napster Internet Streaming, giving access to all the latest Chart Releases as well as allowing easy playlist creation for hassle free music generation.
As the Kazbar is aiming at a younger crowd, we made sure integration with DJs was as easy as possible. We provided a wall box with all the necessary connections and the Zone mixer has 2 separate Stereo inputs for easy selection of source.

The Globe Ale House
The Globe Ale House in Penzance has recently undergone a refit after a change of management. They had 3 separate sound sources, Sky TV, Juke Box and a Live System for Bands, all going to their own separate speakers.
This meant a complicated arrangement to switch between either the Sky, Juke Box or Musical Performer.
SkinSounds completely re-wired the system so all the speakers were fed from a centrally switched 'Zone Mixer', whilst adding a Larger Pair of speakers to enhance the Live Acts' coverage across the Bar.
Club 2000
Club 2000 is the most popular club in Penwith, Cornwall. The club caters for a large variety of acts ranging from Radio 1 Djs to classic underground acts such as AIM, Trojan Sound System, Bonobo, Bugs In The Attic, Belleruche, Ty, Dynamite MC, Nextmen; the list goes on.
The club is a three room ‘Zoned’ system able to cater for Djs and full live bands. Each room’s sound can be fed to the other rooms in any combination. The main room has a 32 Channel Allen & Heath desk with 6 fold-back feeds and a selection of outboard, making it very versatile and also the best live setup in Penwith.
SkinSounds was commissioned to overhaul the sound system in the main room. We installed a fully functioning Patch Bay, added more Tie – Lines and installed 2 more Subs to really enhance the current PA. The work has really increased the functionality of the club and it is now able to cater for most live situations. Having the 11 players of ‘Drum Summit’ with their full line-up perform on 2 separate occasions is testament to this.
