Kasabian

Our Contract with Kasabian was to specify and build a small recording studio for them that couples the latest digital technology with the most vintage recording gear ever manufactured.

The Studio is to be a relaxed and personal space where the band can take time to work on their material in between their hectic tour schedule.

Their emphasis on the studio was to help them attain the classic sound of the seventies, using entrusted analogue equipment coupled with the newest of technologies to make them compatible with commercial studios.

We therefore opted for a Trident 80 Series desk, sourced through MJQ in London. This desk is considered one of the best recording desks ever made, with its warm sound and musical EQ. This coupled with a microphone list such as Neumann U67, Coles 4038s, Royer 121s, Urei 1176 and Empirical Labs

Distressor Compressors and Digidesign Pro-Tools HD make for one of the most sort after recording chains available today.

SkinSounds has dealt with the entire project management of the spec and build, working with several different companies to specify and complete the studio.

Olympic Studios

Founder of SkinSounds, Owen Skinner, learned his engineering and production skills in one of England’s most prestigious and historic studios.

The EMI owned ‘Olympic Studios’ has been a legendary facility operating since the early 1960s catering for artists such as the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Oasis, Kasabian and Arctic Monkeys.

As an In-House Engineer Owen learned the trade from the ground up utilising the best equipment from both the Analogue and Digital domains: from Studer A820 Tape Machines to Pro-Tools HD, from EMI TG Desks to SSL 4000 G and SSL 9000K desks.

The experience Owen has gained whilst at Olympic has brought a wealth of knowledge to ‘SkinSounds’. The skills garnered from having worked with such classic and contemporary equipment means there is always hands-on experience behind the choices and solutions presented to our customers.
